Frequently Asked Questions
What does a tubeless tyre insert actually do?
It sits inside the tyre and protects the rim from impact damage on hard hits — preventing rim dents, pinch flats, and tyre burping at low pressures. It also lets you run lower tyre pressures safely for better grip on technical trails.
Will it fit my MTB wheels?
Yes. Rim Shield fits MTB wheels in 27.5-inch and 29-inch sizes, with tyres from 2.2 to 2.6 inches wide. Check the specific size range on the product page for an exact match.
Does it work with regular sealant?
Yes. Rim Shield is fully compatible with all standard tubeless sealants, including our Instant Seal Tyre Sealant. The insert doesn't interfere with sealant action.
What tyre pressure should I run with a tubeless insert?
The insert is what lets you go lower safely. Many riders drop 3–6 PSI below their usual pressure once fitted, gaining grip and comfort. Start with a 2–3 PSI drop and fine-tune on familiar trails.
Do tyre inserts make your wheels feel heavy or slow?
There's a modest weight gain at the rim, but it doubles as protection. Most riders find the trade strongly positive: lower pressure means more traction, and run-flat capability means a tyre tear doesn't end your ride.
