What is chain lubrication?

What is chain waxing?

Longevity is where the two methods separate most clearly, and it's the deciding factor for most riders.
Why wax lasts longer in the dry
Waxed chains perform exceptionally well in dry environments because the wax forms a solid, durable coating that doesn't attract dirt. You can often ride 400 to 600 km before needing to re-wax, depending on conditions and how clean the chain stays.
Because wax repels grit rather than trapping it, it never forms the abrasive paste that traditional lubes can — so the chain and cassette wear more slowly too. And while the wax layer does wear off under normal riding stress, it degrades more gradually than liquid lubricants, which drip off or wash away.
The picture reverses in the wet. Water and mud strip wax from the chain, sometimes after a single soaking. In rainy or muddy conditions a waxed chain may need re-waxing after just 150 to 250 km.

Commuters and casual riders. A good all-purpose lube offers the best balance of convenience and protection across mixed conditions.
Riders in dry climates. Wax excels where dust and grit would otherwise clog a lubricated chain.
