Before you start
The only preparation that matters is a clean surface. Wipe the full length of the downtube with a clean cloth to remove dust, oil, and old grime, and let it dry completely. Adhesive applied over dirt will lift at the edges within weeks.
Installation steps
- Clean the downtube along the full area where the protector will sit — typically the underside, facing the front wheel.
- Peel the backing off the protector, handling the adhesive as little as possible.
- Start at the head tube end. Position the protector at the top of the downtube and press it on, working your way down toward the bottom bracket.
- Smooth out air bubbles as you go. Press firmly from the centre outward with your thumbs so the protector follows the tube's curve cleanly.
- Finish with firm pressure along the entire length, including the edges, to bed the adhesive in.
Tips for a perfect fit
- Install at room temperature — adhesive bonds poorly in cold conditions.
- Avoid washing the bike for 24 hours after installation to let the adhesive cure.
- On curved or tapered downtubes, work slowly — the flexible construction wraps cleanly if you press progressively rather than all at once.
