Frequently Asked Questions
Will it damage my disc brakes or pads?
No. Rotor X is purpose-built for bicycle brake systems and is safe on rotors, calliper seals, hydraulic and mechanical disc systems, and brake pads. Unlike automotive brake cleaners, it won't degrade rubber seals or pad compounds.
How do I stop my brakes from squealing?
Brake squeal is usually caused by rotor contamination. Spray Rotor X on both rotor surfaces, wait 30 seconds, wipe with a clean cloth, and the squeal typically disappears. For persistent squeal, clean the brake pads as well (let them air dry, don't wipe).
Can I use it on rim brakes too?
Yes. Rotor X works on rim brake surfaces (both aluminium and carbon braking tracks) as well as disc rotors — making it a single brake cleaner for any cycle.
Can I clean bike disc rotors with alcohol or petrol?
Isopropyl alcohol works in a pinch but evaporates before dissolving embedded oils. Petrol, diesel, and WD-40 must never touch rotors — they leave residue that contaminates pads. A purpose-made bicycle brake cleaner dissolves contamination and evaporates residue-free.
How often should disc brake rotors be cleaned?
Monthly for regular riders — and immediately after any drivetrain work with lube or degreaser, after deep monsoon rides, or whenever squealing starts. Clean the pads roughly every three months.
